23 Weeks!

So, I'm sorry that it has been so long since writing, especially since we were finding out gender. But...

IT'S A GIRL!!

We have a beautiful little princess. SO excited. :) And, as you can see, we changed the name of the blog. We are naming her Evelyn Ipolani Adams! We will call her Evey for short while she's younger and then she can decide what she would like to go by later. We are so excited for our little girl.

How I am: Gaining weight! My belly is ever growing because my little girl is ever growing! I'm feeling really good. I have been blessed with a really great pregnancy. However, because I am working 12 hour shifts, I have begun wearing compression socks so my feet don't swell because they get really sore. I am just now starting to wear pregnancy clothes! I still fit in some of my pre-pregnancy clothes, but am enjoying the bigger style of the pregnancy ones. :)

How Evey is: she is a pound! And a foot long! And moving like CRAZY. In about the last week I have been able to feel her all the time and Joel has even been able to feel her! Usually, he will kiss my stomach and talk to Evey and she will kick and push back on his face. I am really glad that Joel is able to feel her now. Her ears are almost fully developed so she can hear my voice now!

We love our little girl so much! It makes it so much more real now that we know the gender and have a name picked out. When we were taking the ultrasound, she was sucking her thumb and even yawned! I am so technologically illiterate, so I don't know how to scan some of the pictures of her, but I will be sure to post them when Joel scans them :)

Our princess Evey!

She's all snuggled in. The 3D images are a little freaky because Evey hasn't developed brown fat yet, so she is all skin and bones, but she is still so pretty! We love our little girl!

Animation picture of a 23 weeks old baby! Look how developed she is! Pretty incredible, isn't it?

Growing, growing, growing...

19 Weeks

Well, I feel like I'm growing by the day! And people are mentioning that to me as well :) Bring on the baby weight! I want a healthy baby.... I just hope I don't go all crazy and gain tons of weight. But whatever our baby needs!

How I am doing: I am great! I am finally looking pregnant. Not just, "Hm, Kanani looks chubby, like she's gained some weight." It is definitely pregnant looking now! Comments I've gotten at work....
"Someone's getting FAT!" :)
"Wow,  you look pregnant! You're waist is getting thicker."
"Now you look pregnant, not just like you have been drinking too much beer."

Leave it to nurses to just say it how it is. :) Now, in any other circumstances, such as me NOT being pregnant and actually just gaining weight, I wouldn't have appreciated these comments. BUT, seeing as I AM pregnant, it is so fun to hear! I enjoy showing.... my baby is growing! AND.... I cannot get enough ice cream. Wow, I LOVE ice cream right now! My husband is just amazing too. He has made a few late night ice cream runs. Which, is sweet, but the fact that it has been hovering around -20 average per week, that is a mighty deed! I love that man.

How Peanut is: Now weighing 8.5 ounces (1/2 a pound! Big baby! :) and about 6 inches long, baby is constantly growing in leaps and bounds. Peanut gained 1.5 ounces this week... that is a big leap for a little baby! This week's development focuses on the 5 senses. Peanut is starting to hear my voice and will begin to recognize it since baby will hear it a lot in the next few months :)

2 weeks and counting til we find out the gender! Can't wait!

18 Weeks!

Hello all!

18 weeks today! Officially halfway through the pregnancy.... crazy! Time flies. This week starts the week where the sexual organs of the baby are differentiated enough that you can tell the gender of the baby. However, my midwife said that on the last ultrasound my placenta was low, and they are worried that it will move and block the cervical opening. Thus, causing a C section. I'm really not worried about it because as the uterus grows, it will expand and the placenta should move. If not, well then I get a C section. As long as our baby is ok, I'm ok!

We had a prenatal appointment yesterday. Sad news -- our midwife had a contract dispute with the hospital bigwigs and is no longer working there. So, we have to get a new care provider. All the other midwives in Fairbanks are either not covered by our insurance or are part of a birthing center. I don't want to give birth in a birthing center, I want to at the hospital. Bummer. But I figure, the doctor is only involved for 15 minutes to catch, so its no big deal. AND, more importantly, God is in control! We listened to the heartbeat and it is nice and strong. The cool thing was that while we were listening to the heartbeat, Peanut started shifting around and we could hear the whooshing of Peanut moving! It was really amazing.

How Peanut is this week: Arms and legs are flailing all over the place. Baby is 5.5 inches long and about 7 ounces. Growing like mad! Gender is very much differentiating.... girls = fallopian tubes and ovaries growing; boys = testicles and prostate developing.

How I am this week: I have started showing a little! Still a little bump, but it is significant to me :) Last prenatal appointment (end of January) they said I should start feeling the baby move and.... I HAVE! Not to get inappropriate, but it feels a lot like a gas bubble, and they told me it would. But it feels different. It usually happens when Joel is pressing on my stomach or rubbing it. The baby is saying, "Hey! My space!" Its amazing! I have gained 6 pounds, and they will keep on coming! Buttoning my pants is possible, but extremely uncomfortable. Thanks to my mom and mother-in-law, I have belly bands, which go over the top of my pants so I can leave them unbuttoned but no one could tell. YES. :)

Now the big news.... LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, place your bets! Our ultrasound is scheduled for February 17th!! Boy or girl?? We shall see.... :)

15 weeks

Wow! Next week baby will be 4 months old?! People told me it would go fast, but geez, I am floored. I skipped a few weeks because we visited home and I've been working a bunch,  but we're back!

How I am feeling: great! I praise God that this pregnancy has been so manageable! Still no sickness. I am still tired, but I don't feel trainwrecked all the time. Just a little extra sleep here and there and I am a happy camper. I have gained about 2 pounds so far. I partially think that weight is just being divided though... about 2 weeks ago, it started being uncomfortable to button my pants. But, thanks to my wonderful mom and mother-in-law, I got 3 bella bands. They are basically stretchy bands that go over your pants so no one can tell they are unbuttoned :) AMAZING invention! So, I can still button my pants, but it is pretty uncomfortable, so I'm sticking to the bella bands.

How Peanut is: big! Peanut is moving all around, I am just unable to feel it yet. Both arms and legs are moving like crazy, and legs have outgrown the arms so Peanut is starting on the road to proportional. :) Eyelids are still fused shut, but baby can tell when light is around. If I were to shine a flashlight at my belly, Peanut would move away from it. Can you believe how incredible our God is? Wow. Peanut is now the size of an apple! And about 4 inches long.

I am so excited to meet this little person! We find out if its a boy or a girl beginning of February so I will keep all posted!

Little, tiny bump :)

12 weeks!

This is it! The last week of my first trimester! Wow, I can't believe that. I am 1/3 done with pregnancy and that much closer to meeting our baby. Crazy.

How Peanut is this week: he's developing reflexes! We saw this last week on the ultrasound... if you poke at him, he flips in response. :) He is starting to open and close his fists and starting to do the sucking motion with his mouth. How cute! He is the size of a full lime and in between size of a lemon ;)

How I am: finally not feeling so tired. However, that could be because I have been catching up on sleep lately because I was really sick last week. Only nauseated if I don't eat for too long. And still "poochy". Not showing yet, but it's only a matter of time!

We are leaving tonight on the red eye flight home for Spokane! YAY! And my best friend Wylie is throwing us a baby shower so we can celebrate with our Spokane friends tomorrow. So excited!

11 Weeks!!!

Just so I can say I've done something with this blog... I scanned and added these! - JOEL
PS I also donated a Y chromosome, hopefully. But we'll be just as happy with an X.

Yay for Joel! :) Sooo, as you can see, we got an ultrasound this week! Isn't our baby the cutest? :) The top on is a side view and the bottom one is our baby facing us. Our baby is very active! Joel said he looked like he was doing kung fu because he was flailing around so much and cartwheeling and bouncing. It was so good to see that our little baby is strong and happy! And the cutest thing, he kept just stopping, facing us and waving his right hand. It was so great. The ultrasound tech said that our baby was active and healthy with a good strong heartbeat. Nothing makes us feel more at ease. At one point, the tech said, "Look, if I push on the amniotic sac around the baby, I won't hurt him. The sac moves to protect the baby." Right after she moved from pushing on the sac, Peanut freaked out and bounced around. Joel said it was like, "HEY! Back up!" :) Peanut brings us so much joy! From his waving to kung fu to happily bouncing around, we are so happy!

How I am feeling this week: I was very nauseated and threw up some... however, that night I ran a fever, got chills and was really sick. I called in sick to work and they said the 2 wings I work on were on quarantine from the same sickness. The infection control nurse made a point to tell me that this sickness was not harmful to the baby, so that was good. Still recuperating, but feeling better. I am starting to get, as Joel calls it, a "little poochy". :) I haven't gained any weight yet, but I am starting to stick out a little around the middle. HA! I am so excited to endure fatness for the baby :)

How Peanut is this week: Peanut is starting to hiccup because the diaphragm is forming. CUTE. Hands are fully formed and beginning to form into fists like babies are so famous for. Peanut is the size of a lime now! How he's growing! Peanut is now almost fully formed, its just a matter of baking longer in the oven and developing the already formed body! We love our little baby and are so excited as Peanut keeps on growing!

10 weeks!

Amazing week this week! We just got back from our first prenatal appointment. We have decided to go to a nurse-midwife, instead of a doctor, who delivers in the hospital. She was so attentive and caring and I feel very comfortable with her. WE HEARD PEANUT'S HEARTBEAT! It was just incredible. Our midwife, Lisa, was saying, "Well, you may have a uterus that turns back, so please please please don't freak out if we don't find a heartbeat. I know it will be hard, but that is very common. It may take up to a few minutes..." and then we heard it! Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh. She said it was nice and strong and 160 beats per minute, which is perfect for this age. It was so amazing! I knew I was pregnant, but hearing your baby's heartbeat is just incredible. It really solidifies it and makes it so real! Joel and I were all smiles and it was so beautiful. We are scheduled for an ultrasound next week so that will be awesome too!

How I am this week: still BLOATED. Holy goodness.... bleh. I am yet to gain any weight, but I'm starting to feel a little chubby around the middle. Not showing yet, but there is a little spare tire growing. :) No sickness either (PRAISE THE LORD!) and I am VERY tired. I think that is my worst symptom. For example, after my work week ended this Tuesday, I slept in until 10:30 am Wednesday morning, and then took a 2 hour nap that afternoon! OH, and I was still asleep by 10 pm. Ha! Lisa said that should start to subside soon.

How Peanut is this week: He has little fingernails! This week Peanut is out of the danger zone. He has all his vital organs, and they will just continue to develop throughout the pregnancy. He is the size of a kumquat! (I don't know if you've ever seen one, but it's about an inch long and round like a satsuma orange). Peanut has peach fuzz growing on his big old head and arms and legs. He can move his limbs now and is kicking up a storm! I just can't feel it yet. His skin is translucent and you can see his spinal cord and brain growing. After this week is when Peanut starts really working hard and growing like crazy. Therefore, I should start growing like crazy too!

Incredible, isn't it? We just love Peanut so much already! We love his little heart and thank you Jesus it is beating so strong!
